LITERACY:   ‘WRITE ME IN’

Level 1:

The lessons allow for the development of listening through stories, oral comprehension, vocabulary and oral expression skills. Additionally, these lessons also provide instruction in handwriting, vocabulary development, spelling, dictation, beginning writing and blending skills, alphabetic principle and rhyming and sequencing skills.  The lessons focus on:

  • Phonological Awareness & Concepts of Print
  • Phonics & Word Recognition Skills
  • Decode and read common high-frequency words by sight
  • Reading Literature & Informational Texts
  • Writing Composition & Grammar
  • Speaking and listening

Level 2: (in development)

Level 2 will review and add skills to decoding short vowel words of multiple syllables and basic grammar skills, together with long vowel sounds and additional consonant sounds.

By the end of level 2 learners will be able to:

  • read with confidence and understand the reading, including words with multiple syllables and more advanced letter-sound skills.
  • read and understand narrative (stories) and informational texts with a special focus on application to vocational, agricultural, and life skills.
  • write simple paragraphs with correct punctuation and grammar usage.
  • grow in understanding of word meanings and usage and the power of communicating through reading and writing.
  • develop a biblical worldview related to literacy and communication.
  • apply reading and writing skills to practical areas of life.

NUMERACY:   ‘COUNT ME IN’

Level 1:

We use the CPA approach (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract)

  • Number & Operations
  • Measurement & Data
  • Geometry
  • Patterns, Functions & Algebra
  • Mathematical Practices

Level 2:

  • Collaborative math activities with materials such as cubes, cards, dice.
  • Visuals to explain math concepts)
  • Review questions in each lesson to solidify earlier concepts.
  • Formative and summative assessments
  • Math projects which give learners the opportunity to extend math skills to new and relevant situations.
  • Financial education lessons.
